Emma Kelly examines how airlines will be seeking to make the maximum profit from every passenger they fly later this year, despite the predicted fall in the number of air travelers.

In a post-COVID-19 world, when airlines return to the skies, ancillary revenues will become more important to low-cost carriers than ever before as they flight to ensure their survival.

“Ancillary revenue was an important revenue stream for most LCCs before COVID-19 and I believe this emphasis on ancillary revenue will continue during the rebound,” concurs Mike Slone, Vice President, Principal-Travel Retail at retailing technology company PROS. PROS works with LCCs including Southwest, Azul Airlines, FlyDubai, Porter Airlines and Jeju Air on revenue management and retail solutions.
