Meet the PROS: Brianna Frausto

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, our Latino and Hispanic PROS are sharing how their experiences and culture have influenced their careers.

From childhood experiences at PROS to IT intern to IT Service Desk, meet Brianna, or as her colleagues nicknamed her, ‘IT fairy!’ When she’s not helping others by solving software and hardware issues, you’ll find Brianna long-distance running and strength training. We sat down with Brianna to talk about traditions, the importance of inclusivity in Latin culture, food, and career advice that has shaped her personal and professional growth and more.

Let’s get to know Brianna!

Tell us about your journey to PROS.

Funny enough, my mom used to work for PROS in my early high school years. I would always be at the PROS events and was so fascinated that no matter what the event was for or who was there, I always felt welcomed and was received with a warm hug or even a high five from everyone who worked here. It always felt like a big family. When I was asked who I would like to intern for, back when I first joined PROS, there was no doubt in my mind I wanted to be part of the PROS family!

Tell us about your cultural background.

I am Mexican American! My family was born in Mexico, right along the border in Laredo and Reynosa, Tamaulipas. I was born here in the U.S. Although I was born and raised in Houston, I grew up going to Mexico a lot to visit my family, which I believe is what has kept me close to my culture. Through my family, I learned about foods, music, our religious beliefs and many more traditions that I hope live on even after me!

How has your cultural perspective contributed to a more inclusive and diverse work environment?

In Latin culture, everyone is family! No matter who you are or where you come from. Whether you’re blood related or not, we always welcome everyone with open arms! You’ll often hear the phrase “you’re invited to the carne asada,” which is saying you’re invited to our cookout. We love being together in harmony with those important to us! I feel like life at PROS is one big diverse family.

What’s your favorite cultural holiday to celebrate?

A cultural holiday I cherish and celebrate is Christmas! We begin the holiday celebrations about a month before Christmas Day, and they last until January 6, Dia de los Reyes! This time of year brings families closer than ever with prayer, gifts, singing, dancing, and lots of delicious food!

What Latin dish best describes you and why?

That would most definitely be aguachiles! Aguachiles is a dish usually made with shrimp, red onion, green salsa (made with lime juice instead of water, to cook the raw shrimp) and cucumber. It’s my absolute favorite, but also because the shrimps are like me, “small, but spicy!”

What is the most valuable career advice you’ve received?

Always search for the value in your feedback or criticism. I used to take feedback or criticism in a negative way prior to starting at PROS. I believed any feedback was bad and whatever I was doing wasn’t good enough. Once I learned that the value in these two things, I’ve grown more. I’ve allowed myself to understand that this information can benefit me or if it doesn’t, allows me to see things from a different perspective and include that in my decisions/work.
