PROS Scientists Selected to Address 2016 INFORMS Annual Meeting
HOUSTON, Nov. 14, 2016 – PROS® (NYSE: PRO), the revenue and profit realization company, today announced that members of its Science and Research team – Ravi Kumar, Ph.D., Ang Li, Ph.D, and Wei Wang, Ph.D. – will deliver presentations based on their research at the 2016 INFORMS Annual Meeting. Scheduled for Nov. 14-16, the conference will be held in Nashville, Tenn., at the Music City Center. More than 5,000 leading academics, industry experts, INFORMS members, students and government agency representatives are expected to attend.
INFORMS – the Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences – is the largest society for professionals in the field of operations research, management science and analytics, with more than 12,000 members around the world.
PROS Principal Research Scientist Darius Walczak, Ph.D., serves as chair of the Revenue Management and Pricing (RMP) Section of INFORMS.
“The INFORMS Annual Conference brings together research professionals and thought leaders from some of the world’s most high-profile companies, and academic representatives from the most renowned research universities around the globe,” said Walczak. “It is a great honor for our scientists to again be selected to deliver their research. PROS scientists are helping companies around the world reshape their businesses in the digital age, using operations research science, dynamic pricing, offer optimization and personalized offers as strategic enablers.”
Kumar, Li and Wang will deliver presentations based on revenue management-related research for airlines:
- Kumar will deliver a joint presentation with Wang titled Dynamic Pricing and Learning in Airline Revenue Management: Carriers around the world are actively engaged in evaluating class-free pricing controls that may fluctuate over a continuous price interval. They will present dynamic pricing algorithms that efficiently learn the underlying customer behavior and help ensure good revenue performance.
- Li will present updated research developed by himself and Walczak titled New Developments in Airline Capacity Sharing Models. They consider an aircraft’s seating capacity shared between business and economy compartments using a moveable curtain that allows better utilization and improved revenue. The extended model considers a curtain allowed at pre-specified, feasible positions and is solved using a fast algorithm. The model controls capacity based on real-time booking requests so that economy passengers may be considered for business compartment accommodations, which leads to improved profitability.
