Deemed a ‘spreadsheet psychic’ ‘number-crunching prodigy’ and a ‘master of prediction,’ Silver is the author of New York Times’ best seller The Signal and the Noise: Why Most Predictions Fail – But Some Don’t. Silver established his credentials as an analyst of baseball statistics, developing a widely acclaimed system called PECOTA – Player Empirical Comparison and Optimization Test Algorithm – which predicts player performance, career development, and seasonal winners and losers. A former New York Times political reporter, Silver’s approach to thinking probabilistically using big data and analytics has established him as one today’s foremost prognosticators.
