Let’s get to know Davin!
Tell us about your journey to PROS.
I was referred to PROS by a former executive and graciously joined the team in April 2024. My journey into Market & Competitive Intelligence was unplanned but rewarding. As an intern at an EdTech startup in Canada, I applied for a full-time role as a Junior CI Specialist. On my very first day as a full-time employee, the hiring manager announced her departure, leaving me to lead the function for a company that had just surpassed $500M ARR and was preparing to go public. Nearly 18 years later, I’m still doing what I discovered I love—and what I’ve realized I might be pretty good at.
What do you enjoy most about working at PROS?
Hands down the people. Collaboration and knowledge-sharing are second nature here. Many colleagues have been at PROS for over 20 years, bringing a depth of institutional expertise that is both inspiring and invaluable. Coming from start-ups where long tenure was rare, this wealth of experience and historical context is a refreshing resource—one that continuously enhances my understanding of the competitive landscape and empowers me to drive impactful strategies.
Tell us about a cool project you are working on.
I’m currently working on a series of small projects with big impact that enable knowledge sharing about the market. I share bi-weekly competitive updates that are widely read across teams. The best compliment is when people reach out asking when the next update is coming!
What are you a PRO at?
I am a PRO at strategizing how to compete effectively. Whether it’s Sales needing targeted tactics against a specific competitor in a particular industry, Marketing ensuring our differentiators are current and well-articulated, or Finance staying informed with the latest news to lead proactive conversations, my coworkers come to me to help align efforts for maximum impact.
By the time I turned 21, I had lived in 16 different cities across 4 countries and 3 continents, which means I grew up fluent in English, (Canadian) French, and Spanish—though I’m still working on keeping the latter two sharp. While I wouldn’t call myself a PRO at speaking multiple languages, it’s still worth acknowledging! Teaching a Competitive Intelligence certification course in Canada also gives me the chance to speak Québécois from time to time.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
It’s an honor to have your work edited.
While the phrase ‘feedback is a gift’ can feel cliché at times, working with seasoned tech journalists and authors early in my career taught me its value. They edited my work as rigorously as a publisher might, teaching me to: a) be truly critical of my own writing, b) aim for better first drafts, and c) edit others’ work with care. If you find someone willing to take the time to refine your words, it’s invaluable— and something to be truly grateful for.
