Meet Kalin Vitkov, Vice President of Cloud Operations, and sci-fi/fantasy enthusiast! 🧙♂️
Kalin leads global teams across the US and Europe responsible for the performance, reliability, and financial efficiency of the PROS cloud ecosystem spanning four key disciplines: Cloud Fabric (SRE), FinOps, Cloud PMO, and Cloud Development. Together, his team ensures PROS cloud infrastructure is secure, scalable, and cost-optimized to support the company’s growth and innovation goals.
Let’s get to know Kalin!
Tell us about your journey to PROS.
My career in technology began early, graduating from a specialized boarding high school as a database developer, trained under university professors. That foundation set a clear direction toward IT – a path I’ve followed with purpose ever since. University studies deepened my technical expertise and sharpened my engineering mindset. Over time, hands-on experiences across different areas of IT naturally evolved into leadership opportunities. Transitioning into management required a new perspective and skill set, but it quickly became clear that this was where I could have the greatest impact.
I joined PROS after several years at Vayant Travel Technologies, about a year before its acquisition by PROS. I was drawn to the organization’s disciplined, research-driven approach to decision-making – something that deeply resonated with me. At the time, I was pursuing my MBA and had conducted a financial analysis of PROS, which revealed both strong potential and operational challenges. I knew it was the right environment to contribute meaningfully and grow further as a leader.
What do you enjoy most about working at PROS?
What I enjoy most about working at PROS is being part of its journey. When I look back to where we started, it’s incredible to see how much the company has grown and evolved. What makes it truly special is knowing that our team has played a real part in that transformation.
We’ve built something meaningful together – not just improved operations, but a culture where people strive for collaboration, innovation, and genuinely care about making an impact. That sense of shared purpose and progress is what keeps me motivated every day.
Tell us about a cool project you are working on.
I’m currently working on splitting PROSCloud, which has been both a significant technical challenge and a really exciting opportunity. 😊 It’s pushing us to rethink how things operate behind the scenes, and I’m enjoying the problem-solving and collaboration that comes with it.
What do you do outside of work to recharge?
I’d say my best investment has been my e-book reader. I’ve always loved Science Fiction and Fantasy, and reading is how I unwind and recharge. When I have the time, I like to build display ships (a great mix of focus and creativity), though my latest project has been sitting unfinished for a while now…
What are you a PRO at? What do your coworkers go to you for?
There’s no big secret or hidden talent – just the fact that I genuinely enjoy working out. I make time for it a few mornings each week, and staying consistent has become something I’m really proud of. It keeps me energized and balanced.
Coworkers often come to me when they want an honest, straightforward professional opinion. I try to be direct while still being supportive, and (I hope 😉) people see me as someone they can rely on for clear, candid feedback.
What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?
Back in 2008, while driving to the office I overheard a discussion on the radio that could be synthesized into, “In a world of ever-changing technologies, the way to convert your technical experience from liability into an asset is to go the management route.” This lured me into testing the “dark side of the force” and proved how technical expertise combined with patient listening and open-minded decision-making helps build great teams.
