Meet the PROS: Kristen Hart

In celebration of Pride month, our PROS are sharing the importance of inclusion and belonging.

From contracts to karaoke, meet Kristen, Accounts Payable Associate I! Celebrating five years at PROS, Kristen ensures suppliers stay on track with their contractual terms. When she’s not processing payments, you’ll find Kristen tending to her thriving plants and singing on the karaoke stage.

We sat down with Kristen to talk about the importance of representation and authenticity in the workplace and what brings her joy outside of work.

Let’s get to know Kristen!

Tell us about your journey to PROS.

I was a contractor working with our awesome Marketing team where I met the wonderful Marcela! I then went to another company, but when I left, Marcela had invited me to a PROS karaoke event. I was sold and learned of an opening with Office Services, and the rest is history!

What do you enjoy most about working at PROS?

I have always enjoyed the cultural diversity and the types of folks PROS finds to join our community. I have met some incredible people while being here.

What do you enjoy doing outside of work that brings you joy?

Tending to my plants and going out for karaoke with friends! Nurturing and watching a living organism grow strong and thrive, and contributing to our planet in that way is incredible – no matter how small or big the plant is! And I’ve been singing in performing groups since I was little, so music has always been a form of creative expression for me, and in karaoke it brings me joy to see others let their guard down and embrace the music and the feelings that come with it! It takes guts to sing in front of other people, so it’s a treat to see others putting themselves out there in that way!

How important is representation in the workplace, and how does it affect your work experience?

Representation is validation of existence, and when your existence is acknowledged and respected (and in our case at PROS – celebrated!), you have less time for stress and worrying about your career/job being affected. Not having to face judgement or negative reparations in being my authentic self allows me to thrive in my work and continue a healthy livelihood like the rest of my peers.

What message would you like to give to someone who is considering coming out in their professional life?

Take your time, and there’s no right or wrong way to come out to your colleagues/workplace. It is also not expected of you to, nor should you feel obligated. If wearing a Progressive Rainbow flag lapel pen on your backpack, or having your partner as your phone screen saver, or mentioning them or any LGBTQIA+ events you attended over the weekend casually in a conversation is your small step in coming out, those are just as valid!
