Let’s get to know Penelope!

Tell us about your journey to PROS.

As I was approaching my college graduation, I knew I wanted to get a head start on building my career in my preferred field of study. I was majoring in Management with a minor in Finance from the University of Houston and was set to graduate May of 2025. After hearing how challenging it could be to find a job right after college, I started looking early, in hopes of securing something I would enjoy. In the summer of 2024, I was referred to my current position in the Accounts Payable department at PROS. In learning more about the role, it sounded like something I’d truly enjoy – and I was right! I applied, got the job, and one bachelor’s degree later, I now love what I do here!

What do you enjoy most about working at PROS?

One of the things I enjoy most about working at PROS is the culture –– everyone is so welcoming and supportive, which makes it a positive environment to be part of. I can always reach out to my team for help, and everyone is willing to jump in and support each other. In my role, I love that while many tasks are similar, each day brings something a little different. There’s always an opportunity to problem-solve and learn something new, which keeps the work engaging.

Tell us about a cool project you are working on.

Right now, I’m working on a process improvement project focused on streamlining our invoice workflow. The goal is to help reduce delays and avoid late payments by making sure everything is handled more efficiently and on time. It’s been a great opportunity to support the team and contribute to keeping things running smoothly behind the scenes.

What do you do outside of work to recharge?

To recharge I like to slow down and enjoy the simple things that make me happy. I love exploring different matcha spots around the Houston area. My partner and I try to check out a new one each weekend –– it’s our ritual that helps us unwind and spend quality time together. I also spend a lot of time with my dachshund (aka my little sausage dog). We enjoy finding new walking trails together, and recently, we’ve even started participating in weekend weenie dog races –– which has been just as entertaining as it sounds.

What are you a PRO at? What do your coworkers go to you for?

I’m a PRO at being the go-to person in my family –– the “do-it-all” multitasker who somehow always figures it out! Over the years, I’ve owned several small businesses, which has given me hands on, entrepreneurial spirit that I bring into every part of my life. Whether it’s doing makeup for family events, creating fun balloon setups for parties, or even doing nails (mine included!), I love stepping in to help and make things special. There’s always something going on, and I’m usually one of the people making it happen behind the scenes. I’m also surprisingly great at making salsa – even though I don’t eat it myself! My partner eats salsa with every meal, so I’ve had plenty of practice. This year, I entered my first salsa competition at PROS… and won! It turns out you don’t have to be a taste tester to be a top chef.

At PROS, I’m someone who’s always available to help. If a teammate has a question or needs support, I’m more than willing to take time out of my day to assist in any way I can. I believe in being a reliable and approachable resource — someone others can count on without hesitation. I think my coworkers would say I’m a PRO at being helpful, positive, and open to learning something new with every employee interaction.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever received?

The best career advice I’ve received is that nothing is handed to you –– you have to work hard and go after what you want. If there’s something you’re aiming for, it’s up to you to put in the effort and make it happen. Anything is possible if you stay determined and committed.
