Let’s get to know Suzanne!
Tell us about your journey to PROS.
I took a break from my teaching career and enrolled in graduate school to pursue a Master of Science degree in Statistics. Upon completion of graduate school, I decided to see what entry-level statistics jobs were available in the Houston area. My plan was always to return to the classroom and teach, but I was curious to see if there were any other opportunities for me. I found an Associate Scientist opening at PROS and thought it would be a great experience for me to apply so I did, and the rest is history! I found my PROS family and have never looked back.
How do you actively ensure that all voices, including women’s, are heard and valued in the workplace?
I work hard to foster an environment where everyone feels comfortable in speaking up and contributing their thoughts. I also work very hard to understand communication styles and make certain I encourage people to use their voice in a manner that they are comfortable with.
How do you balance work and personal life, and what support systems should organizations provide for working women?
I must admit I am a little bit of a workaholic because I love what I do. So, if I am not careful, I could literally work my life away and never have a second thought about it. Since I know this about myself, I proactively schedule personal activities, i.e. workouts in the morning, lunch with a friend or family member, movie night with the hubby, to name a few.
What practical steps can women take to challenge themselves and step outside their comfort zones?
Know your weaknesses and find ways to challenge those weaknesses that are somewhat within your comfort zone. In other words, take small steps and keep pushing yourself more and more until you feel like it’s making a difference.
What are you a PRO at?
Inspiring others and sharing smiles!
